9. Grid connected
Some solar systems generate superfluous energy, which can then be siphoned back to utility companies to help them meet the energy demands of other consumers. If your system is grid connected, you can often get major rebates and other financial incentives – not to mention the goodwill of your community.
This term describes how much energy radiated from the sun lands on a particular area of land. The broiling deserts of Arizona and the Sahara, for instance, get a lot more insolation than do deeply forested regions of Germany.
